Tales of Survival?

The title comes from the most important factor in any good zombie story, when the dead rise and the unlucky ones die early, those left alive must fight to the end (be it happy or sad). Their adventures are their tales of survival.

Zombie Fanfiction?

Why zombie fanfiction? It leads back to my love of zombie fiction. My introduction to zombies was when I was little (10 maybe?) and watched the original black and white cult classic, George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead on TV. I remember being on edge to see if they'd all make it out alive, and being shocked at the ending. Ever since I first saw it I came up with a "tag" game based around this movie and played it with my friends, and even got the other Girl Scouts in my troop to play it too! Ever since I saw that movie (and later the equally good remake) I've loved anything zombie related. Although, there's a chance that the movie wasn't my first zombie story, as around that same time I remember getting my first Goosebumps book, Welcome to Dead House which was also a zombie story, I just remember the movie being the inspiration for the game.

There are a lot of reasons I like zombie stories; the first and largest being the struggle to survive for those still alive. I love the edge of your seat feel when watching/reading one for the first time. And while not as intense as the first time, no matter how many times you reread/rewatch you still just can't get enough of it. I also love the unpredictability of them, most horror movies have at least one survivor... zombie stories are just the opposite. Most of the time there are no survivors. This adds to the edge of your seat suspense because you know the usual outcome, but you just can't believe none of them will make it. There's also the underlying theme about humanity and society... Night of the Living Dead shows it the best, and it's remake even voices one of the underlying themes through the character of Barbara "We are them, and they are us..."
